War Comes to the Imperium: See Your Strategy Play Out in Real Time and in Style
In Our Grim Imperium, battles are not just a matter of strength in numbers or the size of an army. It’s about strategy, positioning, and tactics. That’s why we’re excited to announce our realistic depiction of tabletop wargames in the upcoming release.
We’ve discussed the Armory, where players assemble their army, choosing from a wide variety of units, weapons, and accessories. But what happens when the battle begins? How do the units move and interact on the battlefield?
The answer lies in the two main views of the battle map. The first is a “birds eye” top-down, slightly isometric view where the player positions and moves their units. Here, the units will be rigid, not animated, as if an invisible hand is picking up the model and moving it as a whole.
The second view is a close-up of the action, with the camera panning down to be in the middle of the battle.
This dynamic camera movement will allow for epic moments of seeing forces rush to objectives, engage the enemy, destroy or be destroyed. But it’s not just the camera that’s exciting. The units will be on variously sized bases that correspond to a number of hexes depicting how big they are relative to other models. This means players will have to consider terrain, the size of the units, and other strategic factors when deploying their detachments.
As the battle progresses, players will make decisions that will ultimately determine the outcome of the match. Will they hold back their forces and wait for the enemy to make a mistake? Or will they rush in, guns blazing, and risk everything? These choices will affect the way the battle plays out and determine who emerges victorious.
At the end of the match, we plan to be able to pipe all those events into a high-definition rendered battle report for the players. This report could be minted as a commemorative NFT, especially if it’s the climactic battle at the end of a tournament or long-running season’s conflict between guilds.
